Next week I'll be in Colombia for a lecture in Santa Marta, for an animation festival for children called Cinecita, I'm very excited for it!

Hi! So Today I'll be leaving to Europe for another trip, this time will be half business half vacation trip.
I'll be doing a few lectures for Disney from my work on Princess and the Frog in Madrid and in Annecy.
I'll also be visiting Granada, I can't wait to see la Alhambra, London, Paris, Annecy, and to see some family in Barcelona.
And of course I'll be doing another European series of Paintings! this time with some of the same places and new ones!!

I suddenly have a bit more time outside of work in my hands now that I have finished working on the End credits sequence for Princess and the frog.
Here is a set of three micro-paintings each are 2" by 2". Is a drink theme, and each drink of course it relates to its country.
Another update is that I will be having a booth with my friend Ed Juan at the APE CON in San Francisco on the 17 and the 18th of this month of October. I'll be selling my canvas prints of lots of my paintings! I can''t wait it'll be fun!!!

Toy Story picture book coming out sept 1st

I'm so excited to get my first illustrated children book published The Toy Story Picture book! It was a long process, 48 pages or so! And then a long wait but is exciting to see the result! Is printed in really nice matt paper feels kind of vintage!
I wanted to thank Pixar for recommending me to publishing, thanks you guys for guiding me through the process you are the best! And thanks to Scott Tilley, Winnie Ho, and Brent Ford.

Here is a basic idea of my apartment in L.A, minus the kitchen(is not that nice to include it in the painting) There in the entrance, there is a beautiful mirror desk where I work and paint, seating on my Philip Stark ghost chair, so comfy! then there is a tiny hallway to the bathroom and a door to my bedroom with a nice walking closet. Then there's the dining room, and the black and white tv room.
Oh yes, and my sister is in it, Neysa is in the bedroom wondering where her bed is. And My brother Edgar is enjoying in the dining room a perfect vegan dinner that I've made. I'm about to go out for a walk to have some tea in a coffee shop.

When I was 7, living Europe, in the pyrenees , I missed the bus after school (which was around 6:30 pm) and since it was winter it got dark so quickly, I had to walk home in the snow across the mountains, I walked for a few hours until I got home safe and cold. (And I did have that pink coat with the hat)

I've been in another world for the last month and a half i've been finishing up the Toy Story picture book. Now is done, I'm doing a few fixes and it won't come out until May 2009, a while from now, but I'm excited to have my first book published!
In the meantime I will finish up my cook book, which I'll be putting together very soon!

oh yes, this is for a wonderful Lorelay exclusive recipe of cola-cao cookies (chocolate powder cookies) I've finally perfectionate them, now I can say they're good! I've had a few testers and they give me thumbs up!

Totoro forest project

Here is my donation for an Auction for the Totoro Forest Project, It was fun to work on this one specially when is for a good cause.
We had to include our own take on a Totoro, so for me, on this painting I did the little girl looking in the reflection of the water,
seeing The little Totoros, and a big Totoro on the distance that looks like a hill of grass.

The legend of Loreley siren

So everyone asks me that my name it doesn't sound like is Spaniard at all, my parents wanted to give me a very different special name so special that they even changed the original Loreley to Lorelay.
Loreley is a rock in germany really! but is in a strong current river where there were many boat accidents, Also
Loreley is the name of one of the beautiful Rhine Maidens who lured navigators of this river to their dooms with their alluring singing, much as the ancient Greek Sirens did.

I was telling my friend Leo Matsuda the story and he suggested that I painted a illustration of it, so I did.

Tortilla de Patatas

I think this recepie is a must have on my cookbook. I've made this dish at my house many times, and everyone loves it, typical in every house in Spain, and easy to make except flipping it over, which it can be a disaster. But by making this dish more often it will become very easy. Its funny because the name of this dish "tortilla de patatas" means potato omelete, but here a "tortilla" is the flat mexican bread... So ...don't be confused about this dish and, enjoy!!!

I did these yesterday for fun from a really cool fashion site with amazing vintage pictures. Is kind of fun for a change to do something different than the daily routine. I also have been painting during my lunch hour, for practice some thumbnails of Disney backgrounds from the classics, I think by doing it, is going to be a really help full way to see how these amazing artists did it. Oh and now I'm official at Disney, no more trainee or apprentice, now I have ... even more pressure, but that is a great motivation!

Here is step by step on how to make bread w/ tomato, I'm thinking on illustrating a step by step for each recepie. I think it would be fun.

So we had an informal review last Friday of our work we've been doing so far. It was all of our mentors and us. It went pretty good, and they gave us pretty good feedback for our next formal review on december 14th, that one is the one to worry about!
So besides all that I've been doing at disney, I got an interview at the character design blog!

This is one of the samples that I did for the Toy Story Illustrated book. Painted with gouche, and is about 3" x 5" I really can't wait to start on this project I'm soooo excited!
I will start on mid January, 'til May.

So recently I did a few samples for the Disney publishng company, for a Toy Story illustrated book, and they got aproved!! (I'll see if they can be posted) So starting on January I'll be illustrating the book, I'm really excited!!!
Meanwhile I keep working on my side project for my cookbook.
This is a recepie for roscos de anis, they are licorice like flavored pastries, they are very delicious!

Bread with tomato

I've been quite busy lately, I have a few things I've been working on the side. But I did this painting last night, and then I had to make this dish because I was getting hungry. Is basically slices of real artisian whole wheat bread, then you cut a tomato in half and you rub it on the bread, then you drizzle some olive oil and go and a bit of salt and is ready to go!!

Wow! now I'm starting to get real busy at Disney! ...But I like it! Its lots of fun working in actual real projects! But the days go by sooooo quickly! Everyday is just too short.

The painting with the kids will be for a really good Spanish traditional hot chocolate drink. Is very different from the typical hot chocolate, this one is very, very thick and rich, that you got to eat it with a spoon!!!! So Good!

This is an oven model packet for Hnsel and Gretel I did, I wanted to make it look mean and threatening!

This was our last day, with all of our awesome mentors. The review presentation went really good, everyone had a really good pitch and then the room was opened for all the studio to peek.
It was a great experience at Pixar and I got a lot out of it!!
Now in a week I start at the apprenticeship at Disney Feauture animation so I'm pretty busy for a while :)

This week is our last week working at Pixar on the Hansel and Gretel project, and we'll have a presentation on our last day on Friday, I'm kind of nervous there's so much to do still!

The witch is really a monster, only a monster would be able to eat some cute kids. She wears really pretty dresses and makeup for her cover up, and she has nasty long arms like a spider wating for her pray.

IT's CHOCOLATE!

After 3 days of hunger , cold, and being lonley Hansel and Gretel just discovered the sugar coated forest

Because I love dark chocolate I made the house coated with 73% dark organic chocolate a few candy pieces and giant cookie "wood panels" and since the house is located in the sugar coated forest there is no danger that it will melt or fall apart.
